The Three Best Things I Learned In 2010

I have been known to ask customers and associates, “What was the best thing you learned?” at regular intervals. Jack Gates asked me what I would post as the best thing I had learned in 2010 as we were setting blogging goals for next year. Here are three.

Many Landing Pages - When I figure out something to add to a landing page like my Google Profile, I should think about adding it others, like the Dick Davies Website. People join the conversation from all over.

Browser Hypnosis – There is no substitute for the incredible bandwidth of face-to-face contact. Not every touch, but often.

Best Practices – Real best practices are either blindingly obvious or they are probably not best practices.

What were the best things you learned in 2010?

  1. I the #1 thing I have learned through my personal career is clear and precise communications. There is nothing worse than being misinterrrupted in an e-mail or telephone conference call. Always use the "reflection" in communications so that the other people can communicate back to you what you have said. You will be amazed how some language can be misunderstood.

  2. Hi Randy!

I thought I wrote that the weakest of the three. I'm glad you think it is important. I think it is. Amen, brother!

    Happy New Year!

  3. One of the best things I learned (perhaps re-learned) is simple is better! Presenting with a handout rather than PowerPoint creates a more intimate meeting with better participation. Writing with simple articulate sentences to focus on a single thought permits deeper understanding and more enlightening comments. A simple graphical style is easier to read and attracts the eye more readily than a complex excessively colorful one with font counts in double digits.
